Creative Editing - Charlton Heston as Indiana Jones!

Creative Editing - Charlton Heston as Indiana Jones!

Check out this video on joblo.com by Paul Tassi. Editng clips together, he manage to create a 1950s era looking "Raiders of the Lost Ark" movie serial. Entitled Indiana Jones 1954. Posted on September 16, 2009.

Now, the movie that the clips that Tassi used were of a Charlton Heston movie "Secret of the Incas" that Lucas and Speilberg USED as the basis for Indiana Jones. By the way, Heston's character goes by the name of Harry Steele - an American two-fisted adventuer who has the lovely Elena Antonescu (played by actress Nicole Maurey).

Indiana Jones Number Five Is A Go!

In an interiew with Empire Online.com reproter Phil De Semlyen, Frank Marshall and actor Shia Labeouf both stated that Indiana Jones Number Five was in the script developement stage.

Quoting the Empire article, " Although he didn't specify timelines, Marshall told Empire that ideas would be worked on with a view to green-lighting production sooner rather than later. "It's really about the script," says the veteran Indy producer. "Once we see that, we'll see. We're not going to wait another 20 years. We'd all love to make another one. I'm anxious to hear the idea!"

Since Harrison Ford is approaching his 67th birthday, time is running out. Marshall did leave himself an out, "Until there's a script, nothing's definite."

For me personally, I cannot wait!

New Pictures of Sideshow Collectibles Henry Jones Sr figure

Well, here is an update on Sideshow Collectibles new action figure in the Indiana Jones line up.  Henry Jones Senior!  Expected price to be about $90.00.  But in these photographs, you can see what will be included with the figure.  I cannot wait to get this one.

I still hope that the suitcase shown in the prototype pictures here will be more scale like and functional (i.e. it opens. And the umbrella slides in and out of the luggage straps on the suitcase.  The hat will be removable also I hope. But look at what else you get with this figure.  You also get the grail tablet, the grail diary, and the Holy Grail itself. And of course, the stand.

Marion, Sallah, and Short Round... if only Sideshow will come out with them as well...  (Heck, even Marcus Brody what the hell??  Why not.)

My Take on New Action Hero-Gabriel Hunt

I have just finished reading the first book in a new Pulp-Action Adventure series.  And I loved it.

Book one is:  Hunt At The Well Of Eternity (Gabriel Hunt, James Reasoner), May 2009. Cover art by Glen Orbik.

Synopsis:  The woman carrying the bloodstained flag seemed desperate for help-but it was the attack that followed that convinced Gabriel there was something here men would kill for.  And that was before he knew about the dungeon in the Mayan ruins, or the legendary secret in the rain forest of Guatemala.

This new book series is intended to be, in my opinion, the new Indiana Jones of the 21st Century.  Supposedly written by the 'hero' himself, Gabriel Hunt. Along with assistance from "guest" authors going under the Hunt name such as James Reasoner in this first book of a planned five plus book series.   In fact, Publishers Weekly said about the Gabriel Hunt line the following, "Raises the action bar to nosebleed heights.  Pulp adventure fans will be thrilled to see the genre so smashingly resurrected."

And add to that the cover art work by Glen Orbik - it just fits in with the Pulp Adventure look.  One could have expected to see this style on bookstore shelves back in the 1960s/70s along side of Doc Salvage, the Man of Bronze, etc.

The pacing is quick.  You get the right amount of information when you need it to carry the story along further. It was a quick read for me.  I took it along to work hoping to be able to read it on my breaks, but Saturday, the incoming call volume to the call cent that I work at was slow for the majority of the day.  Only towards the end of my shift at 8pm did call volume start to pick up to where I was no longer able to read the book.  But in between those calls, I was able to read about three or four pages at a time.  From the time I clocked in until I clocked out, I was able to read three quarters of the book.

James Reasoner was able to fold in some of his recent U.S. Civil War knowledge into this tale. Anyone astute enough to understand what the Well of Eternity is, that the well is also known by another-more famous name; can figure out what the main plot device is driving this story.

Raiders of the Lost Ark Transcript

Anybody who has been following my blog for any length of time will know that I am a BIG Indiana Jones fan.

I was visiting The Raider website and there was this posting to Mystery Man on Film's blog and he had a transcript that was or a meeting between George Lucus, Steven Spielberg, and Lawrence Kasdan. Check below for the links. The transcript is in Adobe pdf file format.

Quoting Mystery Man on Film's blog: "Some background first. Spielberg suggested that Kasdan write Raiders because he admired his Continental Divide script. Lucas agreed. Now, imagine with me: Lucas had just released Star Wars, the biggest film in the history of Hollywood and a cult phenomenon. Spielberg had just released Close Encounters of the Third Kind and before that, Jaws. Now Kasdan was called in to have a story conference with the biggest names in Hollywood who wanted to talk about their next blockbuster. The conference took place at the L.A. home of Jane Bay, who was Lucas’ assistant. They had 5 consecutive 9-hour days to talk about the story. This .pdf is a transcript from taped recordings of those meetings."

Indiana Smith was one of the earlier versions of the famed explorer. It just doesn't have any Zing! But, as far as spoofing, then Indiana Smith would be a great name indeed.

Again, quoting Mystery Man on Film: "... Spielberg and Lucas were idea machines. They could’ve sat there coming up with Indiana Smith ideas forever. There were enough ideas generated in these meetings for two films, which they actually used for two films."

And this is going to be my last quote from Mystery Man's website. It covers the background history of Indiana Jones and Marion Ravenwood: "Interestingly, the discussion about Marion was hardly as thorough as the one about Indy. For a while, they weren't sure what kind of girl to have as a counterpart to Indy. Lucas had first described the love interest as a blonde double-crossing German agent, which they ended up using in Last Crusade.

"Spielberg said, “She should have hair like Veronica Lake. You only see one eye at a time.”There was talk about a big name professor who taught Indy everything he knew. Then there was the idea about this German girl, and for the sake of expediency, Kasdan suggested that Indy instead have an affair with the mentor’s daughter, which they loved.

"And then Lucas and Spielberg were off and running with ideas about how’s she’s been left in Peru and has this bar and is trying to get money together to get back to the States and loves (and resents) Indy to no end. In fact, Kasdan said he wanted Indy and this girl to already have a history when they meet because, “I like it if they already had a relationship at one point. Because then you don’t have to build it.” Hehehe…

"Then the discussion turned to how old Marion and Indy were at the time of the affair: (NOTE: G = George Lucas, S = Steven Spielberg, L = Lawrence Kasdan).

"G — I was thinking that this old guy could have been his mentor. He could have known this little girl when she was just a kid. Had an affair with her when she was eleven.
"L — And he was forty-two.
"G — He hasn't seen her in twelve years. Now she's twenty-two. It's a real strange relationship.
"S — She had better be older than twenty-two.
"G — He's thirty-five, and he knew her ten years ago when he was twenty-five and she was only twelve. It would be amusing to make her slightly young at the time.
"S — And promiscuous. She came onto him.
"G — Fifteen is right on the edge. I know it's an outrageous idea, but it is interesting. Once she's sixteen or seventeen it's not interesting anymore. But if she was fifteen and he was twenty-five and they actually had an affair the last time they met. And she was madly in love with him and he...
"S — She has pictures of him.

"And now consider the dialogue of that scene in the film:
INDY: I never meant to hurt you.
MARION: I was a child! I was in love.
INDY: You knew what you were doing.
MARION: It was wrong. You knew it.
INDY: Look, I did what I did. I don't expect you to be happy about it. But maybe we can do each other some good.
MARION: Why start now?
INDY: Shut up and listen for a second. I want that piece your father had. I've got money.
MARION: How much? (End Quote)"

Have fun reading it.

Paper Modelling

Have you ever attempted to make one of those paper models look like what the photographs in the magazine (or nowdays, online)? Sorta like the picture above? Yeah, me too and failed every time that I tried. And everynow and then, I get the urge to try again.

Just discovered this website and included in it was this model of the Ark of the Covenant scale almsot scale to the correct dimensions for one's 1/6th scale Indiana Jones figure. See the related link below.
On Paper Replika.com there are many subject items to choose from. There is even a Star Wars section. There is even a papermodel of the UFO that crashed at Roswell in 1947 (based on the testor's kit it looks like to me). Or how about the Discovery from the movie "2001 A Space Odessey." Pretty neat.

Sideshow Collectible's Indiana Jones-a review

Back on October 5, 2008, I posted to my blog my impressions of the Hasbro Indiana Jones action figure line (the 12 inch tall variety). I now have a Sideshow Collectibles Indiana Jones action figure and for almost ninety bucks when you figure in the sales tax – it is impressive. My local Hastings happened to have two of them in stock this past weekend when I first found out that they would be available in local stores after all. You thought I was going to make some snide remark about buying such a expensive piece of plastic.

Sorry, not this time. I have been waiting ALL Freakin' Year to be able to get this damn thing! Just look at some of the previous posts to this blog in the past month or two to know the hardship that I am going through right now in my life. This early birthday/Christmas present has accomplished mission goal number one – to improve my morale and make me feel better than I have in the past, well specifically in the last 6 weeks have been very trying. But in general, for all of 2008.

OK, with that in mind, lets take a closer look at this action figure. This is what is included in the fold out box set that is common to Sideshow Collectibles product line.

Two interchangeable heads, one sans fedora. Two sets of both gloved and un-gloved hands. Spare Fedora with a inner liner. Shirt, pants, shoes, and Faux leather jacket. A revolver and a high power pistol. Belt with pistol holster, coiled and uncoiled bull whips. Satchel, a certain golden idol, and a bag of sand to replace it with on the alter.
